The Introspection Rundown Part One
I was involved in five Introspection Rundowns during my time in the Sea Org.
All of them were Sea Org members.
My involvement in the first two was strictly medical coordination.
When a person goes into a psychotic break in the Sea Org, they are isolated from everyone. Hubbard says this keeps the restimulation down (restimulation is pretty much the same as what are called triggers in therapy).
The first step of the Rundown is a full medical examination by a qualified doctor.
Hubbard says in every case of a psychotic break, one for one they had an undiscovered severe medical condition.
We always had to find it before any steps of the Rundown could be done.
But in the case of the first two I was involved in, the doctors we used, Dr Shields and Dr Denk, both Scientologists and OTs, could not find any physical conditions on them.
How could this be? They HAD to have something physically wrong! Hubbard said so!
And so since the doctors had found nothing, it was up to me to figure out what was going on. They were not able to move on to the next step until this was found.
I can’t remember what was finally resolved on the first one, but the second one had severe dental issues and mouth infections and so we determined this to be the physical reason for the psychotic break.
Denis Flamand was the guy we always used to watch them (you may have read about Denis in some articles from Tony Ortega, about a woman locked up in Tennessee. See, Denis has dealt with many Sea Org members in psychotic breaks over many decades). Denis was a strong guy. He had been a hockey player in Canada and was built for the task.
See, some of them wanted out.
We thought we were doing what was right. We were trying to help these people for their own good. Even if they were not aware we were trying to help.
The thing is, we had no idea what we were doing. We were not trained on the Introspection Rundown, and we were flying by the seat of our pants on what to do with these two (the first two I dealt with were essentially back to back. As soon as we got one in a state to leave, the other one had a psychotic break and we were right back at it).
Neither of them got any auditing sessions, as far as I remember. We didn’t have anyone trained on it.
So, if we get super-technical, we would actually say they did not, strictly speaking, get the Introspection Rundown, which requires a Class VI auditor and auditing sessions, but we did do the first few steps of it, which are isolating the person and the medical.
As soon as they could put a sentence or two together, they were sent out of the Sea Org, essentially to fend for themselves.
I’ve thought about these two often, and wondered how they are these days.
The third one I was trained on the Rundown by then, and I was doing actual auditing sessions on them….
To be continued.
